Google Search/Filter Update

GOOGLE
Search + SEO
While there are many search engines besides Google, such as Bing, Yahoo and AOL, Google clearly is the leader. This week we will discuss how a search engine operates and how they make money.
HOW DOES A SEARCH ENGINE OPERATE?
The first step is to catalog all the information on the Internet.
To do that, Google sends out spiders to crawl (scan) every page out there and document the information and where it is found.
(To assist the spiders in cataloging a site with the correct keywords, many web developers add meta tags to the webpages. Meta tags are like headers, in which the author writes in keywords for the search engines.)
The next step is to go through all the words and determine which ones are important, which ones are less important and which ones are meaningless.
To determine this, Google weighs the value of each word, so that when you are looking for a word it will bring up relevant results.
After the search engine finishes the above plus some more steps (including securing the data, shrinking it’s size, indexing the data and hashing it) it is ready to show up in a search.
The technical term for searching is creating a query.
If you are looking for something specific which requires numerous words, you are using Boolean Operators to combine words and phrases in one search.
(Boolean Operators include: and, or, not, followed by, near and quotation marks)
HOW DOES A SEARCH ENGINE MAKE MONEY?
After reading the above and seeing how your search results in Google are built very scientifically, one would expect to be getting honest results.
Sorry, your mother was right… if it’s free, it’s too good to be true.
How does this apply to us?
On a Google search, did you ever notice the top search results are in a shaded box and there are some shorter results on the right of the screen?
Those are paid advertisers!
Also, there are full time jobs in SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. These teams of people work for a particular website and they work on raising their employer or company’s site to the top of the search results in both the paid and unpaid sections of your search results.
Depending on the keyword, the harder and more expensive it is to appear on top of search results, especially the big names such as Google and Yahoo.
