GOOGLE ALERTS
What is Google Alerts?

GOOGLE PRODUCTS

Google is most commonly known for its search engine and its email platform. However, there are many other products which Google has developed. The problem with these products is that they are removed at random – Google may discontinue the product and since they are free and are based online, there is no way to continue using the product. At the moment, there is a very simple, yet powerful tool which can be used for a myriad of purposes.

HOW CAN GOOGLE ALERTS WORK FOR YOU?

Do your own or manage a business? Want to keep your finger on the pulse?

Are you looking for a job?

Ever wondered if people are talking behind your back?

Did you ever wonder how news sites and blogs get their information, without the need to scour the Internet for the latest news story?

Want to be notified as soon as a promotion or discount code is rolled out?

By setting up a simple alert, searching for pertinent information (your name, business, subject of curiosity…) you can be notified as the information appears on the web.

HOW TO SETUP GOOGLE ALERTS:

Google Alerts is a product which can be located at: http://www.google.com/alerts. Google Alerts asks 5 questions:

1. What would you like to be alerted about?

When you enter information into this question, the right side of the page populates with what you would see with this search.

2. Where do you want the information to come from?

Some may want from “everything”, while others may want to limit their search to videos or blogs.

3. How often would you like to be alerted?

As-it-happens, once a day or weekly. Whichever you prefer, Google will accommodate!

4. Do you want all related information or a more narrowed display?

Do you want Google to sift through the data and only give you what they deem relevant, or would you like to see the information and determine that on your own?

5. Where should the alerts appear?

Would you like the alert(s) to appear in your email or on your feed?

IF GOOGLE DOES ALL THIS FOR FREE, THEN HOW DO THEY MAKE MONEY?

Since Google is the largest search engine, businesses spend the most money (to the tune of $3 billion a month) to advertise on Google’s search engine. This applies to Gmail as well.

(Please note: There are certain Google Products which are not free.)
