2012 Highlights
When it came time to write the final newsletter for this year, we decided to write a short synopsis of some of the hot topics of 2012.
VIRUS
What is it?
A virus may be created just to annoy the user, or as an attempt to steal your data.
How do you prevent a virus?
Have a good antivirus program.
Why do people still get viruses, even after installing antivirus software?
A lot of the times a virus masks itself and gets past the anti-virus program.
LOCAL BACKUP
What is it?
A local backup means having a backup of all your data on-site.
Why is it important?
If a hard drive has a failure, your down time will be significantly minimized by restoring your data from a local backup.
ONLINE BACKUP
What is it?
An online backup means backing up your data into the cloud or another location.
Why is it important?
If an entire home or office gets destroyed, all of one’s data will be lost. With an online backup, the data is stored in multiple locations, thereby protecting the data from getting lost.
FILTERING
What is it?
A filter determines whether a site should be allowed to be shown to the user. The filter determines this either on a site-to-site basis, or by categories.
Why is it important?
It keeps users from wasting time and blocks access to inappropriate sites.
MONITORING
What is it?
Monitoring a computer allows the administrator to know exactly what the user is doing.
Why is it important?
If one needs to fire an employee, it most probably will provide the necessary proof for negligence of work duties.
WINDOWS 8
What is it?
Windows 8 is Microsoft’s newest operating system.
What are people’s thoughts?
With a touch screen, it works quite smoothly.
Without a touch screen, it takes a little bit of time to grow accustomed to it.
