Lately, many small businesses have purchased new computers. What do you do with the old ones? Is there anything to be concerned about?

Read below in order to keep your data safe and no NYC fines!

REPLACING OLD COMPUTERS

Eventually you will replace your computer. What do you do with your old one?

Every couple of years people replace their computers. Some may do it every other year, while others may do it once decade. The bottom line is, it will happen. The two key questions which must be answered are:

1. How do you prevent others from taking your data?

There are many components which make up your computer. But with regard to your data, the only important aspect is the hard drive. The hard drive is the “filing cabinet” of your computer. Therefore, before throwing away your computer, make sure to remove the hard drive from the computer and to completely destroy the hard drive, so that no one can retrieve any data off of the hard drive

2. How do you get rid of the actual PC?

For those living in NYC, effective January 1st, 2015 the local recycling laws have changed. You probably received a flyer telling you that the following objects can no longer be placed in the garbage, and rather you need to take it designated locations. • TV’s • Computers, laptops, servers, tablets • Monitors, printers, scanners, fax machines, keyboards, mice • MP3 players, game consoles, satellite boxes • VCR’s and DVD players Click HERE to download the NYC brochure to see where you can take the above mentioned items.
