REMOTE ACCESS
What is remote access?
Connecting to a computer which is not in front of you can be very beneficial.
We see people requesting a remote connection for many different reasons, including:
►Working from home during inclement weather
►Log in after-hours or over the weekend (no need to go into the office!)
►When children have a day off and they need to stay home during a work day
Choosing the correct connection method will vary based on your setup and needs.
Is there a cost involved?
TeamViewer is free for home use. All other software options have a monthly fee. Microsoft has a built in option which is free to use (you will need some tech expertise to do the initial setup though.) Some popular paid remote access programs include LogMeIn and GoToMyPC.
How to determine which connection method you should use:
Generally the answer is based on (1) the router (2) how many people need to connect and (3) what you are connecting to.

TeamViewer
Cost: Free
Description: By setting up the software so that it will always have the same code, you can install TeamViewer on any PC or smartphone and access your PC.
LogMeIn
Cost: $149/yr includes 2 PC’s.
Description: You can install the software on your home PC or simply connect to your office PC via a web browser. You can assign unlimited users to access your PC(s). They now provide 1 TB of cloud storage space as well.
GoToMyPC
Cost: $10/month for 1 computer
Description: An intuitive product with lots of features with a user friendly interface.
Remote Desktop
Cost: Free
Description: Requires router and Windows configuration. This method provides the least remote control experience, once set up.
VPN
Cost: Depends on router
Description: This will allow your home computer to act as if it’s on the same network as your office, allowing access to your files on the network.
